E domenica invece come sarà?

Forse in Svizzera, direi.

Federica Piergiovanni: “I’m very happy for my 7th place at the Italian TT Champhionships”

Good news at Valcar – Travel & Service, because two places have arrived at the Italian time trial championship in Faenza thanks to the performances of Federica Piergiovanni, seventh, and Elena Pirrone (who raced in the Fiamme Oro jersey), eighth.

At the end of this competition we have collected the words of Federica Piergiovanni because in two days she will have the luck and the honor of running the Italian Elite Championship on the roads of home in Puglia. And if we consider that Federica had to “emigrate” at 14 to be able to fulfill her dream of becoming a professional cyclist, the Italian Championship that will be staged on Sunday in Puglia will have a particular flavor for this athlete born in 2001 from Valcar-Travel & Service.

What does it mean to run the Italian Championship in Puglia for you?

“Racing on Sunday will be a great thrill. Cycling on the roads of home in such an important event as an Italian Championship will be an opportunity to honor my land. When I learned that it would be raced in Puglia, I was super happy.

Before we talk about Sunday’s race, tell me about today. How do you rate your stopwatch?

“I’m very happy, because the goal was to improve from 13th place last year. I even finished seventh, I didn’t expect it and I must say I’m very happy. Today it was very hot, I did my best even though I must say that I made some mistakes in some corners. But you know how it is, often when you are at the limit, sometimes you lose a bit of concentration. I’m happy, the names that are in front of me are not indifferent names, I’m satisfied with the my performance. “

And on Sunday how will it be?

“The course on Sunday will put a lot of athletes to the test. There is a continuous ups and downs, there will be hot winds and temperatures will probably be very high above 30 degrees. I will make myself available to the team following the instructions of my sports director Davide Arzeni. “

What relationship do you have with him?

“It helps me a lot, it gives me the opportunity to run important races and I have the opportunity to compare myself with the best athletes in the world. It is not something to be taken for granted at my age. And I also take this opportunity to thank the other ds Enrico Campolunghi. “

And what kind of relationship do you have with your companions?

“I have a wonderful relationship. I feel like I’m their” little sister “and I have to thank her so much.”

For what, in particular?

“Because they give me a lot of advice and, in particular, because during the race they help me to better read the race, something that I don’t always do well and that I’m trying to improve”.

What have you improved in this year?

“A little bit of everything. I’ve made several progresses and I’m happy with this. I feel stronger every year, on pace, uphill and time trial, and I hope to make the most of all these experiences I’m having.”

Was there a point in the season when you felt disappointed?

“You know, I often have ups and downs, sometimes if things don’t go as I think I go a little low, but then I recover. Maybe in Switzerland, I’d say. I wanted to do more, but my legs didn’t go well and I felt like I didn’t have a chance to express myself at my best. “

What is the best moment, however?

“Running the Liège-Bastogne-Liège was wonderful. A path that I really like and that I have done for two consecutive years. This year I didn’t think of finishing it and instead having reached the finish line was a great personal satisfaction”.

Dreams in the drawer?

“I would like to race the Giro Rosa one day, it’s a race that has always fascinated me and I hope it will happen soon.”
